Sarney and the House of Horrors

In his last Report, the brazilian magazine Veja published that the Senate president, José Sarney (PMDB-AP), has a secret bank account abroad. The transactions were discovered in documents relating to cases of extrajudicial liquidation of Banco Santos which is the subject of investigation of the Federal Police.

During the investigation, the Federa Police found in a computer owned by banker Edemar Cid Ferreira a file called "JS-2", which detailed the handling of the secreat account. On June 10, 2001, for example, Ferreira would have delivered $10 thousand to Sarney, but both deny the transaction.

The file shows that in October 1999, the account had a balance of $ 870,564. There is also a record of two withdrawals: one in December 2000 of U.S. $ 4717 and another in March 2001 of U.S. $ 2273, with "value delivered to the Al Franca, avenue de São Paulo where the family Sarney have an apartment.

Statements of Sarney's income tax has no record of money abroad during the period cited, according to the magazine. The advice of Sarney mentioned that no resources outside the country remained in the period 1999 to 2001.

Sarney has been accused of a series of irregularities, the main one involved in the secret acts of the Senate, which were created to hire relatives and allies in the offices of senators. The most recent complaint is that public resources allocated to the Sarney Foundation by Petrobras. This resources had been diverted to ghost companies and businesses of the family of the President of the Senate.

Sarney, which was brazilian presidente (1985-1989) demostrate each day he is a shame for brazilian people, just as had described the magazine The Economist about a week ago on an article named the house of Horrors.
