Romero Britto is a Brazilian born Pop artist who combines cheerful images, lively colors and facets of Pop art, graffiti with Cubism. Living in Miami for 25 years, Britto is one of the most famous living Pop artists. He paints, serigraphs and sculpts and has made portraits of many famous people including Dustin Hoffman, Gloria Estefan and Andre Agassi.
His “talent” is a controversial topic in Miami because the art industry considers Britto to be too commercialized. Britto has designed murals for buildings, posters for events, Absolute Vodka bottles, the Hurricane Katrina Logo Advertisement, Disney Posters, Beaujolais Nouveau wine labels. Is it art or mere advertisement?
Britto's work includes acrylic on canvas paintings as well as monumental aluminum sculpture.
Britto's painitings and sculptures exude color and happiness. Broad black lines divide patches of vibrant greens, blues and reds, featuring flowers, hearts, children, couples, cats and many other subjects. His art combines the elements of pop art and cubism, creating the unique Britto Look, much appreciated not only by art lovers, but by companies such as Absolut Vodka, Movado, Publix and Pepsi to name just a few.
The artist finds his inspiration in everyday life. Cheerful works, including a portrait of his son Brendan and a huge sculpture of a big blue dog, are part of the show.
Britto said he wants his work to bring smiles to spectators.
''I hope in the time that we live, my art can bring some sort of good feeling because that it is what my art is about,'' Britto said.
